Continuous Observer (Per Diem)

About the role

All KHI employees are expected to perform tasks supporting KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems. Under the direction of a registered nurse, the Continuous Observer provides continuous visual and proximal contact with patients, ensuring safety and comfort.

Key responsibilities

• Provide continuous one‑on‑one observation for patients who are confused, at risk of self‑injury, or exhibit unpredictable behavior.
• Assist with basic comfort services, set up trays, help with feeding, and accompany patients during transport for tests or procedures.
• Maintain a safe environment, intervene to prevent self‑harm, and stay with the patient at all times, including emergencies.
• Document patient behaviors and status accurately on appropriate forms.

Required profile

• At least 18 years old; high school diploma or GED preferred.
• Basic Life Support certification (American Red Cross or American Heart Association).
• Ability to stand, walk, stretch, and assist patients up to 300 lb; able to sit and focus for long periods.
• Comfortable communicating with a diverse population and handling stressful situations.
