Consultant for Informal Conflict Resolution

About the role

The Office of the United Nations Ombudsman and Mediation Services seeks a Consultant to deliver informal conflict resolution services to UN personnel. The role involves confidential, in‑person and virtual mediation, outreach, and systemic feedback on conflict patterns.

Key responsibilities

• Provide informal dispute resolution services to UN personnel through in‑person and virtual engagements, maintaining confidentiality.
• Conduct mediations, acting as a neutral third‑party to help parties discuss issues, negotiate agreements and generate solutions.
• Deliver outreach and skill‑building activities to raise awareness of informal conflict resolution services.
• Provide systemic feedback on observable conflict patterns to the Ombudsman or Regional Ombudsman.
• Develop relationships with visitors, advise on available services and follow up for feedback.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in conflict resolution, law, social sciences or related field (or first degree with equivalent experience).
• Minimum seven years of progressively responsible experience in dispute resolution, managerial or legal roles.
• Experience in an international organizational setting is desirable.

Required skills

• Fluency in spoken and written Arabic (required).
• Working knowledge of English and French (advantage).
