Construction Manager (CM-3) – Shift Work

About the role

Los Alamos National Laboratory is seeking an experienced Construction Manager (CM‑3) to lead high‑impact, safety‑critical construction projects that support national security. This position requires a strong on‑site presence, hands‑on leadership, and the ability to deliver complex capital projects on schedule and within budget.

Key responsibilities

• Direct and coordinate field construction activities, ensuring safe, compliant, and high‑quality execution.
• Review estimates, schedules, budgets, drawings, and specifications for constructability and cost effectiveness.
• Oversee staffing, material procurement, and field operations for craft and trade teams.
• Integrate safety and security requirements into daily work, with authority to stop work when necessary.
• Collaborate with Project Management, Design Engineering, Procurement, and Project Controls to align priorities and resolve issues.
• Provide coaching and guidance to Site Managers and contribute expertise during planning and proposal development.
• Monitor field‑level expenses, personnel performance, and ensure implementation of field procedures and training programs.
• Foster an inclusive work environment free from discrimination and harassment.

Required profile

• Proven success leading complex construction or program‑management efforts, including scope, schedule, budget, risk, and change control.
• Thorough knowledge of construction operations, subcontract management, quality standards, and government compliance requirements.
• Strong decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities to acquire resources, coordinate multidisciplinary teams, and drive constructive solutions.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for coaching teams and presenting to senior leadership or federal sponsors.
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Project Management, or a related scientific discipline.
