Coating Inspector

About the role

Artheon, an engineering and consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Coating Inspector to support major rail, bridge, and transportation infrastructure projects in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The role involves on‑site inspection of surface preparation and coating application on structural steel components, ensuring compliance with project specifications, manufacturer requirements, and industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Verify completion of surface preparation and coating work on project sites.
• Review contractor submittals, including certified payrolls, DBE/MBE/WBE updates, schedules, requisitions, work plans, and shop drawings.
• Coordinate with senior field inspectors to assess third‑party invoices and progress payments.
• Navigate challenging site conditions such as inclined embankments, train tracks, and lifted platforms.
• Document daily activities, prepare inspector reports, and notify MTA personnel of urgent issues.
• Ensure work follows LIRR procedures, safety and quality plans, and contractual requirements.
• Utilize electronic filing and the Project Management Information System for record‑keeping.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience inspecting structural steel coatings on bridges, rail infrastructure, or similar heavy civil structures.
• Strong technical knowledge of coating systems, surface preparation, environmental conditions, and inspection procedures.
• Ability to work Monday‑Friday, 7:00 am–3:30 pm, with flexibility for night or weekend work as needed.
• Excellent communication skills for interfacing with contractors, engineers, and agency representatives.
