Chemist I – Oligonucleotide Purification

About the role
The Chemist I will support downstream processing of oligonucleotide synthesis using chromatography and analytical techniques. Working in the Consumer Products Services division, the role involves multiple concurrent projects and requires staying current with new oligonucleotide modifications.
Key responsibilities
- Perform purification of oligonucleotides using FPLC and HPLC, monitoring processes to achieve high‑quality results.
- Conduct analytical assays such as LC‑MS to verify identity and quality of synthesized oligos.
- Support clean‑in‑place procedures, instrument hardware upgrades, and workflow improvements.
- Maintain accurate experimental records in ELNS, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to overall laboratory upkeep and equipment maintenance.
- Collaborate with senior chemists and cross‑functional team members on project tasks.
- Utilize general lab equipment (pipettors, centrifuges, incubators, biosafety cabinets, balances) and software tools (instrument‑specific data capture, Microsoft Office, LIMS, electronic lab notebooks).
- Identify, troubleshoot, and propose technical solutions while adhering to quality, health, safety, and environmental policies.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical/Biomedical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences or a related field.
- At least one year of laboratory experience, including co‑op or internship work.
Required skills
- Experience with FPLC, HPLC, LC‑MS, AKTA, Agilent LC‑MS, UPLC, Vanquish LTQ, Waters QDA.
- Proficiency in basic laboratory techniques (pipetting, chromatography, mass spectrometry).
- Familiarity with Windows, Microsoft Word, Excel, LIMS, and electronic laboratory notebooks.
