Carpenter – Classroom Maintenance

About the role

The University of Maryland seeks a skilled carpenter to maintain and repair classroom surfaces, fixtures, equipment, and seating across the campus. Working under general supervision, you will configure classroom layouts to meet instructional needs and perform journey‑level carpentry tasks.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and repair classroom surfaces, fixtures, equipment, and seating.
• Configure classroom spaces and seating arrangements according to specific requirements.
• Perform journey‑level carpentry work, including measuring, cutting, and installing materials.
• Carry out semi‑skilled general maintenance and preventive maintenance assignments.
• Work from ladders, scaffolding, and in various environmental conditions while adhering to safety protocols.

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED (preferred).
• Four years of progressively responsible carpentry experience.
• Valid Maryland Class C driver’s license with fewer than six points.
• Ability to work physically demanding tasks, lift up to 70 lb, and operate in hazardous or confined spaces.
• Comprehensive knowledge of carpentry methods, wood and wood‑like materials, basic mathematics, and OSHA regulations.
