Backend Software Engineer (Java)

About the role

CLEAR is building the secure identity company of the future and needs an experienced Backend Software Engineer to help shape the next generation of its platform. You will design, implement, test, and deploy Java‑based services that power a networked digital identity while keeping privacy and security at the core.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver high‑quality Java code across the full stack, following best practices for testing, documentation, and observability.
• Collaborate with product managers and cross‑functional stakeholders to translate requirements into robust solutions.
• Make architectural decisions, drive continuous improvement, and ensure scalability, security, and data‑model integrity.
• Advance CLEAR’s capabilities across multiple industries, working with privacy‑focused data modeling and security standards.

Required profile

• 3+ years of backend development experience in Java.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud‑based applications, preferably AWS.
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD tools (GitHub, Argo, Jenkins).
• Ability to communicate technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
• Experience mentoring junior team members and thriving in ambiguous environments.
