About the role
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is seeking an Associate Humanitarian Affairs Officer to join its Policy Branch in New York. The role supports the Norms and Principles Section by providing research, analysis, and drafting support for humanitarian policy and intergovernmental engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Assist senior officers in designing and preparing studies on humanitarian, disaster, and emergency relief issues.
- Research, analyse, and present information from diverse sources, including Member States’ statements at UN meetings.
- Contribute to the drafting of background papers, policy guidelines, parliamentary documents, and sections of the Secretary‑General’s annual reports.
- Develop and maintain reference resources on specific policy topics and respond to internal and external information requests.
Required profile
- Experience in humanitarian policy research, analysis, and documentation.
- Familiarity with UN intergovernmental processes, including the General Assembly and ECOSOC.
- Ability to work under delegated authority and collaborate with senior humanitarian affairs staff.
