Assistant Director, Sports Information

About the role

The Assistant Director, Sports Information supports the Athletics Department’s communication efforts, creating and distributing content that highlights the university’s sports programs. Reporting to senior leadership, you will work closely with media outlets, coaches, and student‑athletes to ensure accurate and timely information.

Key responsibilities

• Write press releases, feature stories and produce game programs, notes and media guides.
• Maintain and update the official athletics website.
• Coordinate game‑day media relations, statistical services and overall game management.
• Train, supervise and schedule student workers and task assistants.
• Develop and implement comprehensive public‑relations initiatives and promote athletic events.
• Assist with special events, fundraising activities and student‑athlete leadership programs.
• Oversee the Student‑Athlete Advisory Committee and NCAA CHAMPS/Life Skills program.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in sports journalism, sports administration, public relations or a related field (Master’s preferred).
• At least three years of relevant experience in sports information or media relations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to meet tight deadlines.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and collaborate with diverse campus stakeholders.

Required skills

• Statistical software such as Genius, Stat Crew or PrestoSports.
• Adobe Creative Cloud Suite – Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
• Live‑streaming tools like Production Truck or Wirecast.
• Web design basics and proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
