Assistant Director of Facilities – University Flats (Student Living)

About the role

The Assistant Director of Facilities will support the Area Director in overseeing daily operations of student housing at University Flats. This role blends technical expertise with leadership to ensure safe, well‑maintained living environments for students.

Key responsibilities

• Recruit, hire, train and supervise Lead Maintenance Technicians, Maintenance Technicians and Assistants.
• Schedule and manage maintenance activities across all buildings in the area.
• Ensure facilities are safe, compliant and conducive to student living and learning.
• Plan long‑range projects to support future growth.
• Coordinate preventive maintenance, repairs and upgrades.
• Manage budgets, contracts and vendor relationships.
• Diagnose and perform hands‑on repairs on appliances, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, sheetrock, carpentry, pest control, roofing, painting and landscaping.
• Prioritize service requests and ensure timely completion.
• Prepare vacant units for new residents.
• Provide emergency response during floods, storms, fires, etc.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising maintenance teams in a residential or student‑housing environment.
• Strong knowledge of building systems and safety regulations.
• Ability to manage budgets, contracts and vendor performance.
• Leadership and communication skills to coordinate staff and contractors.
