About the role
The Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations supports Texas A&M University‑Corpus Christi Athletics by leading all external communications and media activities. Reporting to senior athletics leadership, the role oversees media relations staff, manages the athletics website, and ensures the visibility of the Islanders program locally, regionally and nationally.
Key responsibilities
- Coordinate and direct the athletic media relations staff for 16 intercollegiate sports.
- Act as primary liaison to local, regional and national media, serving as spokesperson for the athletics department.
- Supervise the creation and distribution of news releases and other media content.
- Assist with game‑day operations, live‑stat production, and travel with assigned teams.
- Maintain current and historical team statistics and records.
- Nominate student‑athletes for athletic and academic awards.
- Recruit, train, supervise, and schedule student workers for game‑day functions.
- Collaborate with the School of Communications on projects and internships.
- Manage the athletics website (goislanders.com), overseeing feature stories and athlete spotlights.
- Work with external relations to develop printed and online materials that promote the university’s mission and brand.
Required profile
- Experience coordinating media relations or sports information activities.
- Strong written communication skills for news releases and website content.
- Ability to serve as a public spokesperson and ambassador for the athletics department.
- Experience supervising staff and student workers.
- Willingness to travel with athletic teams as needed.
- Collaboration skills with academic departments and external partners.
