Applied Scientist

About the role

Clipboard is building a new Applied Science team to own the quantitative infrastructure of its healthcare marketplace. As the first external hire, you will shape pricing, auction, and reliability models that connect nurses and care facilities across the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement pricing algorithms and auction mechanisms that balance supply and demand.
• Develop attendance and reliability models to match workers with workplaces.
• Build and maintain experiment frameworks for company‑wide hypothesis testing.
• Investigate unexpected metric shifts using causal identification techniques.
• Collaborate with engineers to move models from prototype to production.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field (economics, statistics, engineering, mathematics) or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience building and deploying quantitative models in applied or research settings.
• Comfort querying data directly with SQL or equivalent.
• Experience designing and analyzing controlled experiments.
• Preferred: PhD in economics, econometrics, operations research, statistics, engineering, or related field, or deep quantitative research/trading experience.
