Vice President, Software Engineering – Decision Management

About the role

Mastercard is looking for a Vice President of Software Engineering to lead the Authorization Decisioning domain within its Decision Management program. Based in O’Fallon, MO, you will guide a portfolio of market‑facing products, driving engineering excellence, product innovation and cross‑functional collaboration.

Key responsibilities

• Define and execute the engineering vision and strategy for authorization and authentication decisioning.
• Lead delivery of complex, cross‑functional initiatives including real‑time decisioning, rules engines, AI/ML inference, data pipelines and platform services.
• Establish and scale engineering best practices, standards and frameworks across multiple teams.
• Ensure platform reliability, performance, scalability, security and compliance for global, mission‑critical systems.
• Own operational excellence – SLAs, observability, incident management.
• Build, mentor and develop a high‑performing organization of engineering managers and senior technical leaders.
• Balance short‑term delivery with long‑term platform evolution and modernization.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Director or Vice President of Software Engineering or equivalent senior leadership role.
• Track record of scaling high‑performing engineering teams delivering large‑scale, mission-critical products.
• Strong ability to influence across organization and navigate complex stakeholder landscapes.
• Customer‑centric mindset with empathy for partner needs.
