Vice President, Deputy General Counsel – Strategic Litigation & IP

About the role

Roku is seeking a Vice President, Deputy General Counsel to lead its global strategic litigation and intellectual property function. Reporting to the General Counsel, this senior leader will shape litigation strategy, manage the full litigation portfolio, and protect Roku’s IP assets while advising senior leadership on risk‑based decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Own Roku’s global litigation portfolio end‑to‑end, including IP disputes, commercial litigation, regulatory matters, and consumer/class actions.
• Define and drive litigation strategy, deciding when to litigate, settle, or escalate based on business impact.
• Build and implement a repeatable litigation operating system with intake, early case assessment, playbooks, and post‑mortems.
• Establish consistent frameworks for decision‑making, prioritization, and risk management.
• Oversee Roku’s IP portfolio, guiding patent strategy, prosecution oversight, and alignment with product priorities.
• Lead defensive and offensive IP strategies in partnership with internal product and business teams.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in managing complex, high‑stakes litigation and IP matters.
• Proven strategic judgment and ability to influence senior leadership.
• Strong operational leadership with a track record of building scalable legal processes.
• Ability to work in a fast‑moving, global environment and make risk‑based decisions.
• Eligibility to work in New York or California.
