Transportation Coordinator

About the role

The South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice seeks a Transportation Coordinator to plan, supervise, and oversee the secure movement of youth to medical, dental, court, and other authorized appointments. Reporting to the Director of Administrative Services, this role ensures compliance with agency policies, state and federal regulations, and safety standards while maintaining custody and accountability of youth.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and provide secure transportation of youth between facilities, courts, medical appointments, and other authorized locations.
• Develop and maintain staffing schedules and stay‑over rosters to meet transportation needs.
• Review transport orders and court documentation to assess security risk levels before each trip.
• Complete accurate and timely documentation for transports, incidents, vehicle use, and youth transfers.
• Ensure proper use of authorized restraints and adherence to youth supervision, security protocols, and event‑reporting procedures.
• Provide on‑the‑job training to transportation staff on safety, escape prevention, and self‑harm mitigation.
• Respond appropriately to emergencies, incidents, or behavioral issues during transport and notify supervisors as required.
• Maintain compliance with agency policies, state and federal regulations, and safety standards throughout all transport operations.

Required profile

• Ability to work under limited supervision of the Director of Administrative Services.
• Leadership experience supervising transportation staff and managing operational logistics.
• Strong knowledge of agency policies, state and federal transportation regulations, and safety standards.
• Capability to maintain custody, control, and accountability of youth during transport.
• Proven ability to respond effectively to emergencies and behavioral incidents.
