Severance Tax Consultant

About the role

The Severance Tax Consultant works with Ryan’s tax team to identify and secure severance tax incentives and deductions for clients across multiple states. You will gain hands‑on experience with state severance tax mechanics, incentive research, and detailed financial calculations.

Key responsibilities

• Perform fieldwork at client sites to review documentation supporting incentive applications and refund claims.
• Communicate with clients, regulatory bodies, and taxing authorities.
• Research and analyze state severance tax issues and present findings to management.
• Gather data, enter information, and execute detailed calculations.
• Utilize Microsoft Access and Excel to prepare and submit refund claims.
• Conduct company research for proposal and prospect development.
• Assist with additional duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, Mathematics, Business Analytics, Business Computer Information Systems, Statistics or related field; or a Master’s in Business Discipline or JD.
• Minimum 9 accounting hours (or equivalent technical courses) with a GPA of 3.0 and a major GPA of 3.25.
• Zero to two years of audit or tax‑related experience.
• Valid driver’s license.

• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Outlook.
• Strong internet navigation and research abilities.
