Research Specialist 3 – Civic Education Research Lab

About the role

The Research Specialist 3 will support grant‑related research for the James Madison Legacy Project Expansion and Integrated Civic Competencies projects within the Civic Education Research Lab at Georgetown University. Working closely with Dr. Diana Owen and CERL staff, the specialist will design studies, collect and analyze data, and disseminate findings to educators, policymakers, and scholars.

Key responsibilities

• Produce charts, graphs, tables and slide decks to present research results.
• Maintain and regularly update the CERL website with project information.
• Conduct and transcribe recorded interviews with students and teachers.
• Prepare comprehensive research reports for grant deliverables.
• Collaborate on complex research projects and assist with event and symposium organization.
• Establish and sustain relationships with state partners for project monitoring.
• Apply data‑visualization and graphic‑design skills, primarily using Canva.

Required profile

• Advanced research experience in education, social sciences, or a related field.
• Familiarity with grant‑funded civic‑education initiatives.
• Strong written communication for reports and website content.
• Ability to manage multiple data‑collection activities and meet deadlines.
• Experience working in academic or nonprofit research environments.
