Remote Fire Investigator (Albuquerque)

About the role

EFI Global, a full-service engineering, fire investigation, environmental, health and safety and specialty consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Fire Investigator based in the greater Albuquerque, NM area. The position is full-time and remote, supporting complex origin and cause investigations. Candidates should be self-directed, value technical rigor and clear communication, and be able to deliver unbiased, defensible findings. IAAI-CFI certification is strongly preferred, with NAFI-CFEI required at minimum.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate fire events to determine origin, cause and responsibility according to client or legal counsel assignments.
• Determine the origin and cause of each loss or claim and identify potential third-party responsibility for subrogation.
• Interview witnesses and involved persons on motive, opportunity and other evidence.
• Review public records such as land deeds, mortgages, liens, suits, judgments and marriage/divorce records.
• Report to clients in line with EFI's standard procedures and promote EFI services in the insurance industry and assigned territory.
• Act as liaison between the insurance industry and law enforcement and fire service personnel.
• Investigate losses with illegal, fraudulent or subrogation aspects per client or insurer's attorney.
• Travel as required and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• NAFI-CFEI certification required; IAAI-CFI preferred, to be obtained within 6 months of employment.
• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Three years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Prefer candidates living in the greater Albuquerque area.
• Physical ability to stand, kneel, squat, bend, climb, carry up to 50 pounds, pull up to 100 pounds and drive up to 4 hours per day.
