Preconstruction Manager (Houston)

About the role

Alston Construction is seeking a Preconstruction Manager for its Houston office. The role oversees the pre‑construction phase, ensuring accurate estimates, value‑engineered solutions and successful bid preparation to secure profitable projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead daily management, supervision and coordination of the pre‑construction process.
• Develop thorough, accurate and competitive cost estimates from concept through construction documents.
• Identify and propose value‑engineered alternatives for methods, materials, schedule and design.
• Review drawings, attend bid meetings and define proposal specifications and scope of work.
• Analyze historical cost data, purchase orders and contracts to inform estimates.
• Provide design assistance and feasibility cost data to clients, design professionals and project teams.
• Prepare bid packages and guide the bid and pre‑construction team.
• Support business development activities and contribute to winning new work.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing pre‑construction activities on commercial, industrial or institutional projects.
• Strong judgment and ability to resolve issues that minimize company risk.
• Excellent analytical skills with a track record of accurate cost analysis.
• Effective communication with clients, design teams and internal stakeholders.
• Ability to lead and mentor bid teams throughout the pre‑construction phase.
