Paralegal (Legal Assistant I)

About the role

Amentum is hiring a Paralegal/Legal Assistant I who works under close supervision with assistance readily available. The position is an hourly, overtime-eligible role under the Service Contract Act, paid $21.49 per hour, and is open until filled.

Key responsibilities

• Research prescribed sources of information on matters of interest to the program
• File documents such as nondisclosure orders, search warrants with sealing orders, and 6(e) notices, amendments and compliance filings for grand jury read-ins
• Review documents to extract data and information, and compile subpoena packets
• Summarize case precedent and decisions in prescribed format
• Docket calendar deadlines, status conferences and arraignments for assigned prosecutors
• Search and extract legal references in libraries and computer data banks
• Attend hearings or court appearances, learn court procedures and assist in presenting charts and other visual information

Required profile

• MRPT facility credentials/authorization, which requires U.S. citizenship at this location
• Paralegal certificate, or enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study; one year of legal training or experience or two years of college education may substitute for the certificate
• At least one year of litigation paralegal or project experience; trial experience is very helpful
• Ability to deliver high-quality work under extreme pressure

Required skills

• Basic legal research with LEXIS and Westlaw
• Word processing, databases (document review and file management systems), spreadsheets, imaging and hardware systems
• Familiarity with ESI tools and eDiscovery procedures
• Excellent written and oral communication
