Outpatient Registered Nurse – Indian Health Service

About the role

The Indian Health Service seeks an Outpatient Registered Nurse to deliver compassionate, evidence‑based care to patients of all ages in an ambulatory setting. You will work directly with individuals and families, providing comprehensive nursing services while supporting the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide patient‑centered nursing care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients in an outpatient clinic.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing interventions for acute and chronic conditions.
• Oversee and guide licensed vocational nurses and nursing assistants as needed.
• Participate in care coordination, health promotion, patient education, and quality‑improvement initiatives.
• Maintain accurate documentation in electronic health record systems.
• Fulfill on‑call, standby, and rotating shift duties, including evenings, nights, and weekends.

Required profile

• U.S. citizenship and compliance with Selective Service registration (for males born after 12/31/1959).
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure and ability to maintain it.
• Eligibility for a recruitment/relocation sign‑on bonus (if applicable).
• Willingness to undergo E‑Verify, employee health screenings, and vaccine requirements.
• Ability to work in a federal civil‑service environment, including probationary period.
