Manufacturing Ops Project Engineer – Wausau, WI

About the role

3M is seeking a Manufacturing Ops Engineering Project Engineer to join its Wausau, WI facility. In this role you will lead capital projects that support heavy‑industrial and quarry operations, working closely with plant teams, consultants, and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Manage project timelines, budgets, and scope for assigned initiatives.
• Coordinate with 3M plant personnel, external consultants, and suppliers across multiple disciplines.
• Specify equipment performance and design criteria, and estimate capital equipment and installation costs.
• Develop and execute competitive bidding strategies and oversee equipment layout and design.
• Coordinate construction activities, lead equipment commissioning, and ensure compliance with applicable codes and guidelines.
• Protect 3M intellectual property and communicate progress to project owners and facility staff.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree (or final‑year student) in an engineering discipline; Mechanical or Mining Engineering preferred.
• 1‑3 years of project management experience, preferably in quarry mining or heavy‑industrial environments.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a matrix organization.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, problem definition, scope generation, and funding acquisition.
• Experience with purchasing, contracting, supplier management, and successful capital project implementation.
