Lead Power Systems Engineer (Hybrid, Phoenix)

About the role

Black & Veatch is seeking a Lead Power Systems Engineer to join its Phoenix, AZ team in a hybrid work model. The role involves leading electrical design and analysis for water and wastewater projects, supporting client consultations, and driving business development for enhanced electrical services.

Key responsibilities

• Lead or act as senior engineer on energy optimization, power system coordination, arc‑flash hazard analysis, and electrical reliability studies.
• Perform construction inspection, resolve electrical construction issues, and coordinate with local utilities on technical needs.
• Review supplier submittals and act as liaison between local design teams, clients, and remote I&C design teams.
• Lead electrical design for water/wastewater projects and provide technical guidance to regional design centers.
• Support business development activities and build client relationships to understand needs and drivers.

Required profile

• Professional Engineer (PE) license.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in electrical design, planning, and construction services, preferably in consulting and water/wastewater sectors.
• Experience with medium and low voltage power distribution equipment, variable frequency drives, standby diesel generators, and client‑facing roles.

Required skills

• Power system analysis tools such as SKM, ETAP, or similar.
• PLC hardware/software setup, network configuration, HMI, SCADA systems, instrumentation, and fiber‑optic cabling.
• Construction inspection, supplier submittal review, and utility coordination.
• Technical guidance for electrical design standards and client specifications.
