Housing Inspector – Community Development & Neighborhood Vitality

About the role

The Housing Inspector ensures that construction and housing projects comply with internal policies, local codes, and federal regulations for the Community Development and Neighborhood Vitality departments. The role involves client intake, on‑site inspections, and coordination between property owners and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and verify client documentation to complete application files for supervisor approval.
• Perform initial on‑site inspections, document housing issues, capture photos, and assess client priorities.
• Develop comprehensive scopes of work for contractor bidding.
• Create and audit case files, including inspection records, plans, and specifications.
• Collaborate with the Construction Supervisor to finalize scopes and schedule the bid process.
• Coordinate inspections, manage communication between owners and contractors, and gather closing documentation.
• Maintain and audit both hard‑copy and electronic project files through close‑out.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or GED (minimum).
• At least 2 years of related experience, or an equivalent education/experience mix.
• Preferred: 2‑4 years of housing or code inspection experience and background in property/construction management.
• Valid Class C Texas driver’s license.

Required skills

• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Computer operation and basic reporting in software databases.
