Health & Safety Intern

About the role

Saputo, a top 10 global dairy processor, is looking for a Health & Safety Intern in Waupun. The intern supports plant safety programs, training and compliance with OSHA and corporate safety, health and environment requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Assist plants in reviewing, rewriting and implementing safety programs.
• Coordinate and deliver safety training, including toolbox talks with crews at sites.
• Help ensure compliance with the Hazard Communication Program, Emergency Action Plan, Fire Prevention Plan, Confined Space Entry Program, Trenching and Excavation Program and other OSHA-required programs.
• Work with employees and supervisors on Job Safety Analyses (JSAs).
• Coordinate supplemental inspections when new processes, equipment or substances are introduced or new hazards appear.
• Help complete project safety pre-plans and hazard analyses for new jobs.
• Verify that corrective actions for identified hazards are completed in a timely way.
• Assist in investigating injuries and illnesses and in post-incident analysis, sharing lessons learned.
• Create safety talks to support company initiatives and campaigns, and submit weekly status reports.

Required profile

• Pursuing a bachelor's or graduate degree in safety or a related field.
• Self-motivated, able to multi-task, work independently and as part of a team, and able to lead, influence and motivate people.
• Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
• Valid driver's license, own vehicle and ability to travel throughout the Wisconsin area and upper Midwest.
• Ability to work scheduled hours and required overtime.
• Reliable, honest, respectful, detail-oriented and punctual.

Required skills

• Working knowledge of computer programs such as Excel and Word (proficiency preferred).
