Health Navigator – Spanish Speaking

About the role

The Health Navigator will connect newcomer and immigrant communities in the Bay Area with essential health resources and services. This role focuses on outreach, education, and navigation of Medi‑Cal and other public health programs, ensuring equitable access to care.

Key responsibilities

• Lead community outreach and education across Alameda and Contra Costa Counties to raise awareness of health coverage options and preventive services.
• Represent IRC at community events, health fairs, and partner meetings to promote health and wellness programs.
• Develop and facilitate workshops on Medi‑Cal enrollment, managed‑care navigation, primary care, preventive health, and mental well‑being.
• Conduct one‑on‑one and group orientations with clients to explain health coverage, provider selection, and appointment scheduling.
• Stay updated on Medi‑Cal policy changes and managed‑care options, sharing relevant information with clients and staff.
• Collaborate with IRC resettlement, health, and community integration teams to coordinate referrals and ensure holistic support.
• Build and maintain partnerships with local clinics, CBOs, schools, and health departments to expand service access for newcomers.

Required profile

• Self‑starter with strong public‑speaking and relationship‑building abilities.
• Fluent in Spanish and English; comfortable using interpretation tools for other languages.
• Experience working with newcomer or immigrant populations is preferred.

Required skills

• Knowledge of Medi‑Cal, managed‑care plans and California public health resources.
• Ability to develop and facilitate health‑education workshops.
• Proficiency in using Language Line or similar interpretation services.
