Engine Lab Test Technician - Afternoon Shift

About the role

A leading supplier of automotive test facilities is hiring Engine Test Technicians for its Engine Dyno lab in Dearborn, Michigan. The position is for the afternoon shift (3 PM to 11:30 PM) and suits people with some knowledge and experience in automotive, either on the job or as a hobby, who want to learn automotive testing from an industry leader. Key responsibilities

• Run a wide variety of non-procedural gasoline and diesel engine dynamometer tests, supporting development, durability and performance testing.
• Collect, review and validate test data for accuracy and completeness, and recommend improvements to engineering.
• Fabricate basic fixtures and interface with technologists, product engineers and supervisors on new test procedures, equipment and methods.
• Verify the calibration and maintenance of test equipment and test systems.
• Install engines on the dynamometer, connect instrumentation, diagnose and troubleshoot problems, run tests, change engine parts if needed, and remove engines and instrumentation.

Required profile

• High school diploma; good interpersonal, computer, oral and written skills.
• Knowledge of engines and powertrain.
• Desired: working toward an Associate's degree in Automotive Technology or a related field, or equivalent testing experience in gasoline and diesel engine testing.
• Experience in engine or powertrain dynamometer testing preferred.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs of engine parts; work involves manual labor, hot and cold temperatures, rotating equipment and hot exhaust.
• Regular attendance and punctuality are critical; flexible schedule to cover weekend testing, with possible overtime and coverage of other shifts.
• Dependable personal transportation, ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check, and clear English communication.
