Customer Service Representative

About the role

The Licensing Division of the NYC Department of Consumer and Worker Protection is seeking a Customer Service Representative to join its Intake team. This permanent civil‑service position provides high‑volume support to licensing applicants both in person and by phone, helping them navigate the licensing process and connect with other city agencies.

Key responsibilities

• Review and process licensing applications and related documentation.
• Perform clerical tasks such as data entry, record verification, and routine mathematical computations for payments.
• Provide courteous, high‑volume customer service to applicants in person, by phone, and via email.
• Assist applicants with outreach to other city agencies and facilitate inter‑agency communication to resolve licensing issues.
• Answer telephone calls, emails, and written correspondence, delivering accurate information to applicants.
• Attend seminars, meetings, and training sessions as required.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least one year of satisfactory clerical or customer‑service experience.
• Ability to type a minimum of 100 keystrokes (approximately 20 words) per minute.
• Strong communication, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook.
