Construction Supervisor - Facility Operations

About the role

The City of Charlotte is seeking a Construction Supervisor for its Facility Operations Division. This full‑time, on‑site position oversees field staff and contractors to maintain and improve city buildings, parking structures, and related systems.

Key responsibilities

• Direct city staff, architects, engineers, and contractors on renovation and site‑work projects.
• Manage day‑to‑day operations of city facilities, including snow and ice removal.
• Assist with new construction projects by reviewing design documents, attending progress meetings, and conducting on‑site inspections.
• Represent the division on city‑wide committees and initiatives.
• Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate direct reports.
• Maintain a daily presence at the facility shop (40 hours/week); remote work is not permitted.

Required profile

• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong coordination, project‑management, and problem‑solving abilities.
• Willingness to work after‑hours or weekends for emergencies (snow events, critical shutdowns, etc.).
• Valid driver’s license, good driving record, and eligibility for a city driving permit.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and computerized work‑management systems.
• NC State General Contractors license, LEED, IFMA, or BOMI certification is a plus.
