About the role
The Child Care Specialist supports early‑childhood providers by delivering training, technical assistance, and coaching to improve the quality of care. The role focuses on implementing standards, curricula, CLASS, and TS GOLD across child‑care centers, especially those with higher enrollment in the Child Care Assistance Program.
Key responsibilities
- Provide on‑site technical assistance and practice‑based coaching to child‑care centers, prioritizing low‑performing sites with high CCAP enrollment.
- Collaborate with Early Childhood Community Network leads and attend network meetings as assigned.
- Assist Type III programs in full implementation of CLASS, TS GOLD, Tier 1 Child Care Curriculum, and Louisiana Birth‑to‑Five Early Learning Standards.
- Develop action plans with educators, conduct follow‑up assessments, and document visits and monthly activity reports.
- Deliver a minimum number of group trainings on early‑childhood topics, develop new training modules, and maintain Pathways trainer certification and CLASS reliability.
- Promote participation in trainings, respond to community inquiries about quality child care, and maintain data systems such as NDS by WLS.
Required profile

- Full‑time, non‑exempt employee status.
- Current knowledge of child‑care licensing regulations, health and sanitation standards, fire marshal regulations, and related state programs (CCAP, TOTS, SRTC, CACFP).
- Ability to develop and track action steps toward program goals and to produce clear documentation.
Required skills
- Proficiency with CLASS assessment tools (Infant, Toddler, Pre‑K).
- Experience using TS GOLD assessment system.
- Familiarity with Tier 1 Child Care Curriculum and Louisiana Birth‑to‑Five Early Learning Standards.
- Knowledge of CCAP, TOTS, SRTC, and Child and Adult Care Food Program regulations.
- Pathways certified trainer status and ability to maintain CLASS reliability.
- Data entry and reporting in NDS by WLS.
