Certified Medication Aide (CMA) – Michael Unit

About the role

We are seeking a Certified Medication Aide (CMA) to work on the Michael Unit, providing comprehensive patient care within a correctional healthcare setting. The role involves assisting with hygiene, mobility, nutrition, and medication distribution while maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and document vital signs, height, weight, intake/output, pulse oximetry, and specimens.
• Perform point‑of‑care testing and report results.
• Assist with patient activities and care as directed by the charge nurse according to the patient’s plan of care.
• Provide personal hygiene, oral suctioning, superficial wound care, skin care for patients with TED hose, SCD, casts, skeletal pins, and ostomy care.
• Assist with feeding, ambulation, positioning, turning, and mobility support.
• Manage patient safety measures, including restraints and specific safety precautions.
• Interview incoming patients, complete screening forms, and notify clinical staff of urgent health issues.
• Maintain drug‑room security, distribute medications, and document medication compliance in the pharmacy computer system.
• Uphold patient privacy, practice cost containment, and prioritize work to meet timeframes.

Required profile

• Current Certified Medication Aide (CMA) certification.
• Ability to work in a correctional environment and follow Title 40, Texas Administrative Code, Chapter 95.
• Strong documentation and reporting skills.
• Capability to assist professional staff in maintaining a safe therapeutic environment.
