Aircraft Mechanic - Customs and Border Protection

About the role

Amentum is recruiting an Aircraft Mechanic for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The CBP Aircraft Mechanic maintains and repairs aircraft structures and components of moderate difficulty, including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems and mechanical parts.

Key responsibilities

• Apply technical knowledge of airframe and power plant systems to diagnose equipment malfunctions and restore equipment condition or operation
• Solve moderate to complex problems by interpreting technical documentation such as blueprints and manufacturers' manuals
• Perform daily, flight-line and hangar maintenance on assigned aircraft
• Carry out inspections, corrosion control, troubleshooting and fault isolation on aircraft systems
• Furnish own hand tools; special tools and test equipment are provided by Customs
• Occasionally lead teams on more complex aircraft tasks, and make entries in aircraft logs and records
• Prioritize workload schedules on assigned projects

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Current airframe and power plant (A&P) mechanic certificate
• Ability to obtain and maintain a CBP background investigation suitability clearance (U.S. citizenship required)
• Competent in repairing airframes, hydraulics, fuel systems and aircraft engines, with knowledge of military and general aviation logbooks
• Basic knowledge of electrical theory and thorough knowledge of aircraft tools such as torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and shears
• Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
• Physical ability to stand, squat, sit, walk, work with arms overhead and lift up to 50 lbs; may work in noisy areas with ear protection
• Preferred: employed as a full-time aircraft mechanic in the last 12 months, with 3-5 years of full-time experience
