About the role

The Department of Communication at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill seeks a part‑time Adjunct Instructor to join its faculty for the 2026‑2027 academic year. This temporary appointment involves teaching undergraduate courses, contributing to the department’s research and service missions, and engaging with a vibrant community of students and scholars.

Key responsibilities

  • Deliver high‑quality instruction in communication‑related subjects, including performance studies, media and technology, rhetoric, and organizational communication.
  • Prepare course materials, syllabi, and assessments in alignment with departmental standards.
  • Provide mentorship and academic support to undergraduate students.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum development, and collaborative research activities as needed.

Required profile

  • Qualified to teach at the university level in communication or a closely related discipline.
  • Commitment to the university’s mission of innovative teaching, research, and public service.
  • Ability to work 13.2 hours per week (approximately 0.33 FTE) for a one‑year term.
