About the role
The University seeks a qualified Veterinarian to lead veterinary care for research animals, support extension activities, and ensure compliance with USDA and institutional protocols.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and oversee a comprehensive veterinary program for university animals such as goats, cattle, poultry, and other species.
- Coordinate with animal‑care managers to ensure proper husbandry, nutrition, sanitation, zoonosis control, and hazard containment.
- Assist research scientists and graduate students with animal‑related research activities.
- Supervise veterinary staff, conduct performance evaluations, handle disciplinary actions, and provide training.
- Maintain veterinary medical records and serve as a member (or alternate) of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC).
- Ensure compliance with university and College of Agriculture policies, including mandatory training.
- Develop and collaborate on outreach and extension programs related to animal health.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required profile
- Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (D.V.M.).
- At least ten years of relevant experience.
- Strong knowledge of USDA regulations governing animals in research.
- Familiarity with Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI) requirements.
- Understanding of veterinary health‑care practices and reproductive technologies for agricultural species.
- Awareness of emerging treatment techniques for livestock and other farm animals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development through continuing education.
