TFS Dispatcher I – Fire & Resource Dispatch

About the role

The TFS Dispatcher I supports the Texas A&M Forest Service by coordinating agency and inter‑agency resources for fire and emergency response. Based in Lufkin, Texas, the role ensures timely dispatch, accurate record‑keeping, and effective communication across the statewide fire network.

Key responsibilities

• Dispatch assigned resources and act as the communication link for incidents, aviation management, and logistical support.
• Maintain current records of resource availability, fire reports, and daily intelligence (fire danger, weather data, lightning maps, etc.).
• Coordinate and review processing of FAMIS transactions, mileage reports, travel vouchers, and purchase orders.
• Manage TFS credit cards, vehicle log books, daily activity reports, and assigned equipment in compliance with regulations.
• Serve as collection point for NWCG task books and verify completeness of associated documents.
• Support the local cache specialist with inventory processing, billing, and shipment handling.
• Monitor weather changes, communicate updates to field personnel, and provide situational awareness.
• Occasional overnight travel for meetings or training; on‑call availability with a 30‑minute response requirement.

Required profile

• Ability to travel overnight and respond to on‑call requests within 30 minutes.
• Strong communication skills for interaction with field personnel, supervisors, and statewide fire centers.
• Attention to detail for accurate record‑keeping and compliance with fire management procedures.
