Systems Administrator III – Linux/Unix Lead

About the role

The Texas A&M University System Offices are seeking a senior Systems Administrator to lead Linux and Unix infrastructure for the Bush Combat Development Complex. This position supports research computing environments while ensuring compliance with institutional and federal policies.

Key responsibilities

• Design, deploy, and manage Unix/Linux systems for the Bush Combat Development Complex.
• Develop hardware and software solutions for low‑to‑medium impact business problems.
• Coordinate security patching, compliance, and system monitoring activities.
• Support VMware and GCC High environments and related user integrations.
• Collaborate with other IT staff on infrastructure planning and design.
• Create and maintain system documentation, installation procedures, and test plans.
• Work with vendors and internal teams to resolve technical issues.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing Linux/Unix servers in a research or high‑security environment.
• Strong understanding of security patching, compliance standards, and system performance monitoring.
• Ability to work independently and coordinate with cross‑functional IT teams.
