Public Information Intern – Spanish News Writing & Reporting

About the role

The United Nations Department of Global Communications is seeking a motivated Public Information Intern to support its Spanish news and content team in New York. This 2‑to‑6‑month internship offers hands‑on experience in a UN newsroom, producing daily news, in‑depth features and multimedia products in Spanish.

Key responsibilities

• Draft Spanish news articles by integrating and translating information from reports, press releases, official statements and resolutions.
• Translate English video scripts, photo captions and other texts into Spanish.
• Proofread news items before and after publication.
• Assist with fact‑checking, background research and the production of graphic, visual and audio content.
• Develop feature stories through research, interviews and drafting.
• Review the partnerships database with the UN Partnerships Unit to identify new digital‑media partners and fact‑checking resources.
• Perform additional outreach and assigned duties as needed.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or completed a graduate programme or the final year of a bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration, English or translation studies.
• Proficient with standard word‑processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word, Excel).
• Strong interest in the United Nations and commitment to its Charter.
• Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
