Extension Agent – Harris County Agriculture & Natural Resources

About the role

The Extension Agent supports the Cooperative Extension Program of Prairie View A&M University by delivering educational programs that address critical agricultural and natural‑resource issues in Harris County. Working under general supervision, the role involves planning, implementing, and evaluating a wide range of outreach activities.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate educational programs in crop production, livestock, range, wildlife, agricultural economics, water quality, conservation and natural‑resource management.
• Collaborate with federal, state and local organizations, committees, task forces and community groups to develop and deliver outreach activities.
• Recruit, train and support local volunteer leaders, 4‑H clubs and community‑based organizations.
• Prepare monthly, annual and special reports that document program outcomes, behavior changes and impact.
• Present program results to county and state elected officials and other stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and the university’s affirmative‑action plan.

Required profile

• Under general supervision, ability to coordinate with multiple agencies and stakeholders.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting and public presentations.
• Experience in program planning, volunteer coordination and community outreach.
• Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion in extension services.
