About the role
The Telecommunications Assistant supports the Broadcast and Conference Support Section of the UN Office of Information and Communications Technology, ensuring reliable operation of audio‑visual, broadcast and conference systems across the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical support for installation, repair and maintenance of broadcast‑related audio, video, conference and network appliances, including Congress Microphone and Simultaneous Interpretation equipment.
- Install and repair electronic voting systems, projection equipment, videoconferencing units and other AV hardware at UNHQ, official residences, OAHs or missions.
- Set daily work priorities under the direction of the immediate supervisor.
- Assist Production Operations and Broadcast Systems with periodic testing and maintenance of broadcast and conference equipment.
- Support ad‑hoc operation of AV, Congress Microphone, Simultaneous Interpretation and television production/post‑production systems.
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues for UN Headquarters, OAHs and peace‑keeping missions, seeking advice from supervisors as needed.
- Perform maintenance and minor repairs on hardware equipment.
Required profile
- Reports to the Chief of Section.
- Works under the direction of an immediate supervisor and sets daily priorities.
Required skills
- Experience with Congress Microphone and Simultaneous Interpretation equipment.
- Knowledge of electronic voting systems and projection equipment.
- Proficiency in installing and maintaining videoconferencing units and other network appliances.
- Ability to troubleshoot audio‑visual hardware and software.
- Familiarity with studio production, post‑production and broadcast transmission systems.
- Understanding of radio, television and cable TV distribution systems.
