About the role
The United Nations Statistics Division within DESA is seeking a Statistics Intern to support its data‑driven projects. The role is full‑time, unpaid, and based in New York, with the possibility of flexible arrangements.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in collecting, validating, analysing and visualising statistical data.
- Support the development and maintenance of statistical databases and dashboards.
- Create software prototypes and scripts, primarily using Python.
- Prepare research notes, draft reports, briefing notes and technical documents for meetings.
- Contribute to outreach materials, including social‑media content.
- Help organise seminars, working groups and expert meetings.
- Provide training and technical support on data‑collection programmes.
Required profile
- Current enrolment in a university programme related to statistics, economics, data science or a similar field.
- Strong analytical mindset and interest in international statistical work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Python programming.
