Senior Research Engineer I

About the role

The Senior Research Engineer I will lead the technical architecture of multi‑agent autonomy stacks at the George H.W. Bush Combat Development Complex. This position focuses on designing, prototyping, and field‑testing coordinated autonomous systems that integrate UTVs, UGVs, UAVs, and autonomous helicopters for complex, unstructured environments.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and implement core frameworks for multi‑agent coordination, ensuring modularity, performance, and scalability.
• Conduct background research in emerging technical domains and develop proof‑of‑concept prototypes.
• Translate theoretical algorithms into field‑demonstrated capabilities using the RELLIS campus fleet.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to integrate heterogeneous platforms and enhance situational awareness.
• Lead system experimentation and field testing to validate autonomous solutions.

Required profile

• Advanced degree (Ph.D. or Master’s) in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in autonomous systems, multi‑agent coordination, or related research.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with a track record of delivering prototype solutions.
• Ability to work independently and lead technical efforts within a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Experience with autonomous vehicle platforms (UTVs, UGVs, UAVs, autonomous helicopters).
• Knowledge of multi‑agent coordination algorithms and system integration.
• Proficiency in developing scalable software frameworks for robotics.
