Security Officer – Campus Patrol

About the role

Georgetown University is seeking a full-time Security Officer to patrol and protect its campus facilities in Washington, D.C. The officer will ensure the safety of buildings, students, staff and visitors by monitoring access control, circulation and emergency systems.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain the integrity of assigned buildings and areas, including access control and safety systems.
• Inspect and report on security conditions, noting deficiencies to the supervisor.
• Recognize unusual incidents or unauthorized intrusions and request assistance promptly.
• Utilize communication equipment for reporting and coordination with police sergeant and other security personnel.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting the Georgetown University Police Department.

Required profile

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• At least 18 years of age and eligible for a District of Columbia Security Officer License.
• Minimum one year of general work experience; security, law-enforcement or military experience preferred.
• Ability to pass written, physical, drug, psychological tests and a comprehensive background investigation.
• Professional, courteous demeanor with strong tact and patience.

Required skills

• Basic computer skills, including word processing.
• Familiarity with access control and traffic-flow monitoring systems.
• Report writing and documentation abilities.
