Preschool Instructional Assistant

About the role

The Preschool Instructional Assistant supports teaching staff in creating a safe, healthy, and nurturing environment for preschool‑age children. This position helps maintain classroom operations and ensures compliance with licensing and grant standards.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise children in classrooms and on playgrounds using positive guidance techniques.
• Assist with daily routines such as toileting, dressing, meals, and transitions.
• Support classroom activities including free play, story time, and learning centers.
• Maintain cleanliness by disinfecting toys, furniture, and replenishing supplies.
• Provide coverage to maintain required child‑to‑teacher ratios during staff breaks.
• Communicate respectfully with children, families, and staff.
• Assist with basic record keeping and classroom documentation.
• Support dual‑language classroom activities when applicable.

Required profile

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• Preschool Child Development Associate (CDA) certificate, OR a one‑year Oregon community college certificate related to early childhood development.
• Ability to meet Oregon Early Learning Division requirements for a Teacher Aide within four months of hire.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
