About the role
The Licensing Assistant supports the Texas A&M University System Offices licensing team by researching and analysing technology disclosures, patent information, market data and industry contacts. This role helps move university‑generated research into commercial applications through license agreements with industry partners.
Key responsibilities
- Conduct patent and prior‑art searches using the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office database and other electronic resources.
- Research scientific literature, websites and other publications for relevant prior art.
- Perform secondary‑source market research and analyse findings.
- Review business and technical literature in identified fields and provide concise briefings on emerging developments.
- Identify relevant companies and contacts, compiling industry information for technology fields of interest.
- Prepare focused market and business reports on innovations and topics.
- Participate in internal and external forums, committees and meetings with licensing personnel.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in physical sciences, engineering, life sciences, agriculture, computer sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience conducting patent searches, market research, and literature reviews.
- Strong analytical and written communication skills.
Required skills
- Proficiency with USPTO patent database searches.
- Ability to use scientific literature databases for prior‑art research.
