Digital Solutions Specialist – Individual Contractor

About the role

The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is seeking an Individual Contractor to strengthen its Emergency Response Team’s digital capabilities. You will design, integrate, and operationalize tools that improve crisis foresight and early decision‑making for UN emergency operations.

Key responsibilities

• Refine the rule‑based architecture of the Emergency Forecaster tool and enhance its crisis scoring methodology.
• Design and develop a user‑oriented interface that visualises open‑source security data for senior decision‑makers.
• Collaborate with the Security Information Analyst to improve the Initial Assessment Note Matrix.
• Support knowledge transfer and innovation uptake within UNDSS through internal exchanges and demonstrations.

Required profile

• First‑level university degree in public administration, management, social sciences or related fields.
• At least one year of experience in UN or similar organisations on strategy or system improvement projects.
• Experience with crisis‑related systems and digital transformation initiatives.
