About the role
The Assistant Athletic Trainer supports the Head Athletic Trainer in delivering comprehensive care to student‑athletes at Texas A&M University‑San Antonio. The role focuses on injury prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation to enable athletes to safely participate in competition and daily activities.
Key responsibilities
- Assist in preventing, evaluating, treating, and rehabilitating athletic injuries.
- Coordinate physician appointments, referred care, and rehabilitation services for student‑athletes.
- Provide written and verbal updates to head coaches regarding medical status.
- Serve as liaison between team physicians and coaching staff.
- Support practice and game preparation, including coverage for home and away events.
- Travel with assigned teams as required.
- Maintain policies, procedures, supplies, and medical records.
- Perform administrative duties related to the athletic training department.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in athletic training, sports administration, or a related field.
- Minimum two years of progressive experience in sports medicine.
- Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) in Texas or Board of Certification (BOC) certification.
- At least one year of experience within an intercollegiate athletic department.
Required skills
- First aid, CPR, and AED certification.
- Knowledge of drug‑testing procedures.
- Joint taping and basic physical‑therapy techniques.
- Proficiency with standard computer software applications.
