Sustainable Development Intern – SDG Research & Fact‑Checking

About the role

The Division for Sustainable Development Goals (DSDG) at the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs is seeking a motivated intern to support the preparation of the 2027 Global Sustainable Development Report. This full‑time, on‑site role in New York City offers hands‑on experience in research, fact‑checking, and data analysis within the UN system.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare a comprehensive fact‑checking matrix that records every fact, page, paragraph and source cited in the draft report.
• Compile and format references into endnotes and a bibliography following the United Nations Editorial Manual.
• Draft short research inputs on specific sustainable development topics as requested by the Independent Group of Scientists.
• Conduct statistical analysis, assemble data tables, and create graphs to support the report’s findings.

Required profile

• Enrolled in or having completed a graduate‑level programme (second university degree or equivalent) or the final academic year of a first‑degree programme.
• Strong analytical and research abilities with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
