Student Technician – Strong Teens for Healthy Schools

About the role

The Non-Affiliated Student Technician supports the Strong Teens for Healthy Schools program by delivering lessons to middle‑school students and assisting program staff. This student‑worker position is based in Dallas, Texas, and involves travel to local schools.

Key responsibilities

• Complete all orientation and training provided by AgriLife Research.
• Prepare materials and teach assigned lessons to middle‑school students.
• Attend weekly program meetings throughout the school year.
• Enroll in and finish the Master Wellness Volunteer program.
• Serve as a role model, demonstrating professional behavior.
• Collaborate with school staff, AgriLife researchers, and fellow student implementers to plan and lead the program.
• Provide direct mentorship to youth and assist with program evaluation, record‑keeping, and data collection.
• Participate in leadership development opportunities and perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program.
• Motivated to learn and comfortable with public speaking.
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
• Willingness to travel to local schools and manage a 5‑10 hour weekly commitment.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, highly organized, and professional demeanor.
• Comfortable working with middle‑school youth.
