Smart Hands Engineer – Network Infrastructure Support

About the role

Georgetown University is seeking six Smart Hands Engineers to provide on‑site support for its network and telecommunications infrastructure across its Washington, D.C. campuses and international sites. The role blends hands‑on field work with strategic planning to keep network equipment and cabling reliable, efficient, and secure.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Network Engineering team to design and implement network solutions.
• Develop, maintain, and enforce cabling and telecommunications standards.
• Inspect telecommunication rooms, document issues, and coordinate remediation.
• Obtain and submit quotes from IT cabling contractors.
• Manage physical network equipment inventory, including RMA processes.
• Use network monitoring tools to detect and resolve failing equipment.
• Follow work ticket, change‑control, and incident‑management procedures.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 3–5 years of experience supporting network or telecommunications infrastructure.

Required skills

• Experience with network monitoring platforms such as Meraki.
• Experience with SolarWinds or comparable monitoring tools.
