About the role
The Senior Media Relations Specialist supports East Texas A&M University’s communications strategy by building and maintaining relationships with media outlets at local, regional, statewide and selected national levels. Working under general supervision, the role enhances the university’s visibility and credibility through proactive media engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Establish and nurture relationships with journalists, editors and broadcasters across multiple markets.
- Identify and promote faculty expertise for media placement and interviews.
- Coordinate timely responses to media inquiries and manage interview logistics.
- Write, edit and distribute press releases, fact sheets, op‑eds and other media materials that reflect the university’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Editorial Manager to align media activities with broader communication plans.
- Monitor media coverage, track outcomes and provide regular reporting to senior leadership.
Required profile
- Advanced experience in media relations, preferably within higher education or a comparable public‑facing organization.
- Demonstrated ability to increase public awareness and enhance institutional reputation.
- Strong written communication skills and the capacity to craft clear, compelling messages.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating with cross‑functional teams.
- Relevant degree in communications, journalism, public relations or a related field.
